The Dry Collections largely include pinned insect specimens, and a few plant and insect fossils. They are arranged in species-specific unit trays and arranged in taxonomic order in custom-made drawers and cabinets. Most of the collections are housed in California Academy System Drawers, with very large specimens in Cornell University Drawers. The curation protocols used for the dry collections are in line with the current protocols used in the Natural History Museum (London) and the McGuire Centre for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity (Florida Museum of Natural History, Gainesville).
