Frozen tissue collections have become central to modern biodiversity collections because of their value for molecular systematics and genome and transcriptome sequencing. Our Research Collections hold a substantial tissue collection frozen in -80°C and -40°C freezers. These are usually preserved in 100% molecular-grade ethanol or RNAlater/Trizol. This tissue collection is being used in molecular systematic, evolutionary, ecological and conservation genetic studies. It forms a core of the research programme of Biodiversity Lab, including that of students and research associates.
