Wet Collections
Wet Collections contain tissue of insects, arachnids, reptiles and amphibians for DNA and transcriptome sequencing (preserved in 100% molecular-grade ethanol and RNAlater/Trizol, respectively). Entire specimens of odonates, cicadas, spiders, amphibians, etc., are also preserved usually in 70% ethanol, rarely in formaldehyde and other liquid preservatives. These tissue samples and specimens are preserved in a 4-degree fridge or -80 degree freezers, depending on the type of collections. Some of the taxonomic collections are arranged in genus- or family-specific jars that are arranged in taxonomic order in custom-made drawers and cabinets. Curation protocols used for the Wet Collections are in line with the current protocols used in the Natural History Museum (London), and the American Museum of Natural History (New York, USA).
